Connotations

Someone's connotation of something is their personal response to something, i.e. the word love, whereas a definition is the dictionary meaning.
This concept can also be applied to to photograph. A subjects facial expression or body language can mean different things to different people, therefore it is essential that when taking my photographs I make my model pose in a way that shows the typical gritty attitude of a hiphop magazine.

For example: this image of Shystie is quite dark, and therefore could be seen by the audience to be cold. However, others may see the darkness as a reflection of the typical stereotype of young London. I have a rough idea of what poses I want my model to take.
